#FASHIONFIRSTS MY NEW LINE FOR ATELIER SWAROVSKI XOXOE

ATELIER SWAROVSKI BY ERIC DAMAN

Gossip Girl costume designer and Emmy award winner Eric Daman is a significant fashion stylist whose influence in fashion has lead to designing party dress collections for Charlotte Russe.
Daman made his transition out of modelling after moving to the United States and taking a job as an assistant to Patricia Field on three series of ‘Sex and the City. He went on to do a menswear collaboration with Macys and most recently a capsule collection of tights for DKNY leg wear.
In designing a luxury accessories collection for Atelier Swarovski’s Spring Summer 2012 range, Eric Daman’s ‘Native Modern’ collection fuses an ancient theme with the pioneering spirit of Swarovski. The latest Swarovski crystal mosaic and ceramic are combined with American Indian aesthetics. The show-stopping jewelry line creates impact through use of bright hues and textural diversity finished with antique detailing on the metalwork which adds to the tribal feel.

WHAT TO WEAR ON YOUR FIRST DATE?

Here’s where what you wear comes in into play even more importantly…

If the name Edith Head doesn’t ring a definite bell, she’s certainly one for your syllabus of style…

Edith Head knew how to bring out the spirit, character, and inner strength of actresses whose looks could easily have faded into the background. Her own signature bangs and round tortoise frames were not to be missed.

Edith’s advice:

“is that what you wear must at all times be chosen for flattery, as well as appropriateness. If your liabilities seem overwhelming, remember this. Most of the beauties you think of as flawless have simply learned how to negotiate, and accentuate the positive and camouflage the negative.”

True to form, Edith’s advice for what to wear, even on a first date, is based on the intended audience. “If possible, try to find out who [your date’s] favorite actresses are in motion pictures, television and the theater.”

Edith Head won 8 Oscars and was nominated an additional 28 times for costume design. She is said to have won more Academy Awards than any other woman, having been credited as costume designer for a total of 340 productions! All About Eve is probably the one you’ve heard of the most, but it wasn’t her first Oscar win. That honor was hers for The Heiress.

XOXO

@ChicHarmony “@EricDaman_Style: How did you get into working in the wonderful world of Costume Design? It seems fascinating! & do you have to go to college for styling?”

A set of unique life experiences, a very focussed application of my talents, and an all consuming desire to succeed in this business is how I got here. Early morning starts, long days, and late nights. It is fascinating and I love doing it. I studied French literature at the Sorbonne, was a buyer at a Parisian clothing boutique, got discovered as model, came to New York, learned about styling for photo shoots, then I learned about costume design for independent film, then television. One thing led to another and I embraced eacn new opportunity with 200% of my attention and dedication.

As far as college for styling… I studied literature! But I was well read had studied business, my Dad’s an engineer and my Mom’s a nurse, so I was exposed to a huge amount of information of many different kinds. Steve Jobs did not finish college I beleive. Nonetheless you’d need some significant preparation of some kind that could translate laterally. We all have different paths!

Thanks for asking!

xoxo E
